EKG TECHNICIAN

This program will cover Electrophysiology, 12-LEAD EKG and its analysis. Cardiac Rhythms will be covered in details. Tropical anatomy and physiology will be introduced for students to understand the theoretical prerequisite of EKG, Student will label major internal and external structures of the heart, describe the major function of the cardiovascular system, identify the five types of blood vessels, label the electrical conduction of the heart, explain the reason for performing on EKG, obtain a standard EKG rhythm strip, describe and identify EKG characteristics of Sinus Rhythms. It will also emphasize safety standards, legal and ethical behaviors and quality control procedures.
Program objectives
Upon completion of the program, the students will be able to:

  • Identify the phases of the cardiac cycle
  • Recognize normal and abnormal EKGs
  • Properly set up ECG equipment
  • List the information that must be included on the ECG report
  • Have basic knowledge of pharmacology drugs commonly used in treatment of cardiac disorders

PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN

This program will instruct the student in the collection, processing and distribution of laboratory specimens according to established procedures. It will emphasize safety standards, legal and ethical behaviors and quality control procedures. The program introduces the proper techniques of blood drawing. It also demonstrates the various methods utilized for blood drawing such as butterfly syringe, needle syringe, and evacuated tube system. The program will teach proper laboratory procedures. Students will have the chance to practice their phlebotomy skills on mannequin arms and most importantly the students will have an opportunity to practice their technique under the supervision of their instructor.
Program objectives
Upon completion of the program, the students will be able to:

  • Identify the job function of a phlebotomist and know legal issues related to phlebotomy
  • Describe the universal precautions
  • Describe the venous anatomy and veins and skin surfaces on which phlebotomy can be performed
  • Identify factors to be considered in venipuncture or skin puncture site selection
  • Be familiar with the equipments and supplies needed to collect blood by venipuncture and skin puncture
  • Discuss 6 complications associated with blood collection

Academic Progression

Students enrolled in the Phlebotomy or EKG training will be tested twice to ensure proficiency in the material being taught in each section. Students must score no lower than 75 % percent on exams in order to continue with the training course in good academic standing. All students must score no lower than 75% percent on average in order to continue with the training program in good academic standing. If a student’s accumulated average drops below 75%, he/she will be placed on academic probation if there is still a chance for the student to remedy.
