HOME HEALTH AIDE 

As a Home Health Aide you will assist patients with activities of daily living duties include assisting elderly or disabled adults at the patients’ home or in a daytime non-residential facility. The program is an 83 hours program that can be completed in 3 weeks attending full-time. When the student completes the program, they will receive a New York State certified Home Health Aide certificate.
 

Program objectives
After the completion of the program, the students will be able to:

  • define Home health aide
  • Identity the roles and goals of home health aide and supervisor or coordinator
  • understand physical, social, and spiritual needs of clients and how their needs can be met
  • Possess the skills to work with the elderly, children, and the disabled clients
  • Apply safety and emergency care procedures to avoid clients’ injuries
  • Identify 5 categories of nutrition and prepare well-balanced meals accordingly
  • Assist clients with personal cares
  • Improve their communicational skills

Program hours:  83  (75 hours instruction + 8 hours internship)

Day time Class Schedule

Week 1 &2 Mon---Fri 9 AM to 4 PM (1 hour lunch)

Week 3 Mon, Tue 9 AM to 5:30 PM (1 hour lunch)

Weekend Classes

Week 1 to 5 Sat & Sun 9AM to 5:30 PM (1 hour lunch)

Academic Progression

Students enrolled in the Home Health Aide Program (HHA) will be tested once a week during the 3-week cycle to ensure academic grasp of the material taught. Students must score no lower than 75 % percent on weekly exams in order to continue with the training course in good academic standing. If a student scores below a 75 % score he/she will be placed on academic probation. Students will be notified in writing on their weekly progress report. Students that are on academic probation will be assisted with academic help from instructors to help students to ensure understanding of the curriculum. Students that score less than 75 % percent for an accumulated grade point average for the span of the class will be required to take the course again at their expense.
